2018 – By Allie Barone
So, it is almost here… time to ring in the New Year! As we look back on 2017, many of us can say it has been another year of ups and downs, full of challenges and growth. The thought of 2018 brings hope for a fresh start and new possibilities. So how do we celebrate this turning point event? Everyone has their own way to kiss the old year goodbye, here are some of our favorites…
Celebrate at home with friends and family
New Year’s Eve is our last holiday excuse to have yet another party for while. For many, entering for New year’s Eve is the perfect time to be around people you love to have fun with. Hosting a party has its advantages… you don’t have to drive anywhere, you get to enjoy the comfort of your own home, and you are in charge of the music, food, and guests! It also comes with some work. Do yourself a favor, and get your party catered to take some of the trouble out of the celebration! A great option for party platters in Newburyport is Joppa Fine Foods, or go Mexican with Metzy’s Cantina. Be sure to have some champagne on hand, or tell your guests to BYOB!
Enjoy a quiet night at home
This can be done at home, or with a few close people. Sometimes, we are exhausted from all of the holiday parties that we just want a quiet New Year’s Eve at home. It is a great time to set some goals for yourself, and prepare for the upcoming year. It you want to use this time to reflect, and plan ahead make the commitment to make three lists. On the first list, write all the things from 2017 that you are grateful for. On the second list, write all of the thigs you are ready to let go of in the New Year. On the third list, write everything you would like to create in 2018. These lists can include people, events, habits, ways of thinking, and more! It is a more specific way to make a “resolution”, and can be a very healing practice! If you don’t feel like putting your mind to work, enjoy your time relaxing, eating good food, and toasting yourself into 2018.
Go out for some NYE fun
Of course, another option is always to go out and socialize for New Year’s Eve. If you like to go all out, you can always drive into Boston to see the midnight fireworks. If you would prefer to stay closer to home, plenty of our beloved restaurants in the area will be hosting New Year’s Eve Parties this year. In Newburyport, The Poynt will be hosting a 1920’s themed Speakeasy party, The Grog opens its doors for live music and dancing, and The Newburyport Brewing Company will put on its first annual New Year’s Eve party to which you can even bring your own food, or have it delivered! No matter what your scene is you are bound to find something fun to do in Newburyport! If hanging out at a yoga studio is more your style yoga teacher, Sarah Oleson, has organized a Full Moon Yoga and Celebration hosted at the Phoenix Room from 6-8pm. This event will include a group yoga session, music, snacks from The Juicery, henna tattoos, and kombucha!
Whatever way you choose to celebrate our New Year, remember to stay safe above all. Now is the time to recruit your designated drivers, or prepare to take an Uber or Lyft. There is no wrong way to celebrate New Year’s Eve. Whether the New Year is a big deal to you, or hardly even noticeable it is a symbol of a new cycle and a chance to make a fresh start.
We Wish You All A Very Happy New Year!
