Yankee Homecomingis here! From now until Sunday, August 5th it is time to “Celebrate Seaport Pride” and enjoy the events of Newburyport’s week-long festivities. Our very own Yankee Homecoming began in 1958 and seems to get more inspired as each year passes. There are events for every member of the family to enjoy, no matter what your interests are!

The Market Place is the central location of the event and is open for the duration of the week from 10am until 10pm. It is loaded with vendors from all over the area who put out their best displays for Yankee Homecoming. If there is ever a time to delight yourself with delicious street food, now is that time! Bring the kids down for face painting, and entertainment, or browse the craftsmen’s tents for some handmade goods! It is never too early to start collecting unique gifts for the Holidays. The organizers of the event make sure to stock their vendor list with diverse businesses so you can have all the experiences you want in one place!

If history is your thing, do not miss the Heritage Tours, a collection of guided tours through some of the city’s most historic sites. Be sure to check out the calendar in the link where you will find a different tour for each day of the week. If it’s music you are into then you are in luck! The Waterfront Concert Series features a different band every night of the event, right out on the lawn in front of the water. Grab a blanket, pack a picnic, and pick the perfect spot in front of the bandstand! Kids love Family Day at Maudslay State Park when the entire park is filled with activities and entertainment for the whole family (even your pets)! One of the most popular events of the week are the Fireworks that take place on Saturday, August 4th at 9:15pm. Watch as the colors fill up the sky over our very own waterfront. There are many great spots to watch the fireworks from, and it is always a spectacular show!

However you prefer to celebrate, Yankee Homecoming is a week to appreciate the beautiful city of Newburyport that we all know and love. It is also a time to honor the respected members of the U.S. Coast Guard, and Veterans who has used their lives to serve. In the midst of all the fun, be sure to send some thoughts towards those lives who protect us.
