Friday Five – Kristin Piracini

Our Friday Five feature this week is Kristin Piracini owner of RISE fitness studio located in downtown Merrimac. As a local, born & raised and a current resident, Kristin loves this community and the people that live here. With her studio, she is able to connect with people while doing something she is passionate about. She motivates and inspires through fitness. Thank you Kristin, for being such an essential part of this wonderful community!

What do I love most about this community?

I just love the fact that Merrimac feels more like one big family than just a community. The children in our neighborhood play outside together & in each other’s homes on a daily basis. We can borrow a cup of sugar from a friendly neighbor, or walk down to the local store & greet the owner by name. We have the neighborhood march to welcome Baseball season, the fabulous Santa Parade, our very own electric company, town wide yard sales, community discussions, Merrimac Old Home Days in August, and all of the wonderful activities at the schools. I’m so glad that we found this wonderful place to lay our roots.

Favorite part of Newburyport?

As a fourth generation Newburyport gal, I have a lot of favorites! I’ll narrow it down to two. One is the South End. Born and raised in the South End of town, it has a special place in my heart. I know every street like the back of my hand & I have a memory on every corner. I still love walking the side streets and admiring the love & care that goes into the unique homes, the beautiful trees, the sea wall & the old churches.

My second favorite is MaudslayState Park. When I was little I used to walk the trails with my Dad & siblings, or my Grandparents. We’d hide behind trees, look for treasures & get lost in the magic of the beautiful surroundings. Maudslay is also where my husband & I married in 2011, so it will forever hold a special place in my heart.

One thing I do every day?

I get in a good workout every single day. As a busy business owner, wife & Mom, it’s a time just for me. It’s my meditation, and a gift I give to myself. Whether it’s in a class I’m teaching at RISE, on a hike with my dog, Buddha, at home dancing up a storm in the living room with the kids, taking a class at another studio, or simply taking a walk around the neighborhood, I make the time every single day.

Last meal?

I’d have to go with the Filet Mignon at Mission Oak Grill in Newburyport. It’s fantastic. Filet topped with sautéed mushrooms & a beautiful demi-glacé , served with a crock of creamy Boursin mashed potatoes & grilled asparagus. It’s insanely tender & delicious. I crave it on the regular.

How I knew the North Shore was my home?

Sometimes you don’t know what you have until it’s gone. It took me moving to Florida when I was nineteen years old to realize that I belong on the North Shore. I moved to Florida in September. By the time Halloween rolled around I realized that I was missing that crisp fall air & the nostalgia that comes with the change of the seasons. Before Thanksgiving my bags were packed & I headed home to Newburyport, just in time to go apple picking, dig out my warm clothes & marvel over the gorgeous Fall foliage. I’m home & this is where I belong.

I am so proud of the woman my daughter Kristin has become! I couldn’t imagine her doing anything different with her life than sharing her love of fitness and living a happy healthy life. She started showing signs of her ability from a very young age of 2 enjoying exercise and dance in our living room to no other than Richard Simmons. We would faithfully tune in every morning to do a workout ,I always felt that was the beginning of her love and drive which stayed with her all these years.Just a proud mom.
