Oh, Christmas Tree! By Allie Barone

It is now officially that time of year again… Holiday Season! Now that Thanksgiving has passed the holiday decorations can come out, the festive music can play, and for many households the Christmas Tree can be put up! There are so many ways to get into the holiday spirit, no matter how you celebrate this season. Here are some of our favorite ways to let the festivities begin…

Pick Out Your Tree

If you celebrate Christmas, or participate in having a tree in your home, you know how festive it can make the whole house feel! There are two parts to getting your Christmas Tree that make it a magical experience– picking out your tree and then decorating it! To cut your own tree check out a farm such as  Maple Crest Farm in West Newbury. Be sure to take a wagon ride, roast marshmallows, and drink hot cocoa while you are there. You don’t have to cut down your own tree to have a wonderful holiday experience. Other options include buying and already-cut tree, or decorating with a fake tree. There are no wrong ways to do the holidays!

Decorate The House

Once the tree is home, you can decorate it however you like! If you prefer a stylish tree, search on Pinterest for tree decorating ideas. If you would like to make the tree more of a collection of memories, print pictures, get out the arts & crafts supplies, and have an ornament making party for the whole family! Holiday decorations are especially nice when they are passed down from family, so be sure to save any special mementos from generations past. A festive wreath on the front door can make the house feel welcoming, and adding those little special touches around the home like holiday scenes, homemade snowflakes, or lighting can really warm up the holidays. Invite friends and family over to help decorate in exchange for warm food, drinks, and music!

Attend Community Events

Community events are a great way to jump right into the holiday season. Check out Amesbury’s Holiday Parade and Tree Lighting on Saturday, December 1st at 3:30pm. The train also leaves the station on the same day for IC’s North Pole Express- a magical train ride for the whole family to the North Pole. If you celebrate Hanukkah, join Newburyport’s Congregation Ahavas Achim as they light up their signature 6-foot-tall electric menorah in historic Market Square on Sunday, December 2nd at 6pm. Chances are, no matter where you live there is some kind of a celebration you can be a part of and

Watch a Holiday Movie and Listen to Holiday Music

For some, It just doesn’t feel like Christmas without some Mariah Carey, and classic movies like “A Christmas Story”. Every family has their own traditions, so gather round, and cozy up to your favorite holiday movie. Some favorites include “How The Grinch Stole Christmas”, “Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer”, and “Miracle on 34th Street”. Check out the Today’s Christmas station on Pandora, and fill the house up with cheer!

The Holidays are a magical time because we put our magic into it. Every tradition, celebration, and act of goodwill adds up to color the season with joy. Remember this is also a great time of the year to give back. Time, food, and warm clothes are always appreciated for those in need, and it helps your heart to grow! Be sure to include kindness into your family’s traditions and it will be a virtue that is passed down through the generations.
