Let’s be honest, St. Patrick’s Day is the best excuse we have all year to wear weird clothes and drink lots of beer. Even if green isn’t your color, you throw it on, find a shamrock accessory and head out. Because, rules are rules and tradition is tradition. Here in Massachusetts and the north shore, we have no shortage of cool places to go on a holiday such as this. With a mix of Irish bars, dive pubs and restaurants embracing Irish cuisine – there is a place for everyone’s St. Paddy’s day preferences. Don’t worry about the Irish goodbye this time, you’ll never want the celebration to end.
[9:00 am] -Start with breakfast at the Irish Cottage in Methuen. It serves a traditional Irish breakfast which is what we’ll be having. They have lots of Irish dish options but we’re going with the Irish Omelette. If you’re feeling extra festive start with a shot of Bailey’s in your coffee.
[11:30 am] After breakfast we’re headed to Park lunch in Newburyport for our first Guinness. They are all about St. Patrick’s Day and will be celebrating all day long. They’ll have a DJ playing and serving up traditional Irish dishes.
[1:30 pm] Next up is lunch at The Port Tavern in Newburyport. We’ll be having Shepherd’s Pie but they are offering chicken curry and a boiled lunch as well. After lunch grab another Guinness and sit back and jam out to Shelia Linehan who will be performing at 2pm.
[4:30 pm] After lunch & music we’ll make a quick stop at Buttermilk Baking Company in Newburyport for something sweet. We love the shamrock cookies but they’ll have other Irish inspired treats.
[5:00 pm] Quick walk around downtown before dinner.
[5:45 pm] Dinner at the Grog. The dinner menu will feature Irish dishes and we’ll be having the boiled dinner. Live music all night.
[7:00 pm] Night cap at The Poynt in Newburyport. We’ll have a water & coffee and split a dessert. If you are still in the mood for beer, they’ll have Guinness on draft and other new craft beers.
Have a safe & fun St. Patrick’s Day!
